  • Cardinals rookie WR David Boston fractured his left shoulder blade and will be out 6 weeks. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.
  • Rams RB Marshall Faulk shocked everyone and showed up at the team's mini-camp after stating weeks ago he would not attend. He wants to make a fresh start with his new team including a new contract for which talks have begun.
  • The Broncos have signed QB Jeff Brohm.

April 30, 1999

  • The Steelers and QB Kordell Stewart have agreed on a deal to keep Slash in Pittsburgh through 2003.
  • The Dolphins re-signed K Olindo Mare to a one year deal.
  • The Browns have released RB Pepe Pearson, RB John Henry Mills, QB James Ritchey and WR Fred Brock.

April 29, 1999

  • The Redskins acquired QB Rodney Peete from the Eagles for a 6th round draft pick in the 2000 NFL draft.
  • The Dolphins waived WR Terry Guess.

April 28, 1999

  • Broncos QB John Elway will announce his retirement Sunday.
  • The Ravens signed WR Qadry Ismail to a one year contract.
  • The Bengals still believe that WR Carl Pickens will not hold out this season and they will be able to sign him. Pickens has demanded a trade and has stated he will not play for the Bengals this season. He will sit out this season if need be.

  • The Jets signed QB Scott Zolak.

April 26, 1999

  • Giants QB Kerry Collins was convicted of DWI. He paid $186 and had his license suspended for one month. The Giants have not commented on whether Kerry will be punished for his actions.
  • John Elway is expected to officially announce his retirement this week.
  • The Chiefs and QB Warren Moon have reportedly agreed to a two year deal to backup QB Elvis Grbac.
  • Bills rookie WR Peerless Price strained his MCL during the team's mini-camp and will be out four weeks.
  • The Raiders have signed QB Heath Shuler to a 2 year, $1.2 million deal.
  • The Packers signed WR Mike Vaughn.

  • The results of the 1999 NFL Draft are now available. As expected QB Tim Couch was the #1 pick by the Browns followed by Donovan McNabb and Akili Smith. The Colts surprised everyone by drafting RB Edgerrin James instead of RB Ricky Williams, who was drafted by the Saints. The Saints traded all this season's picks and next year's 1st and 3rd round picks to the Redskins to draft Williams.
  • The Browns acquired FB Marc Edwards from the 49ers for the Browns 4th round pick in Saturday's draft.
  • The 49ers signed FB Tommy Vardell to a 3 year contract.
  • The Ravens traded QB Eric Zeier to the Bucaneers for their 6th round pick in Saturday's draft.
  • The Rams traded QB Tony Banks to the Ravens for their 5th round pick in Saturday's draft and a 7th round pick in the 2000 draft.
  • Rams RB Marshall Faulk will not report to the team's mini-camps unless he receives a new deal. Under his current contract, he will make $2.2 million this season and wants to make closer to $5 million.
  • The Bears re-signed WR Bobby Engram to a one year, $934,000 contract.

  • The Cowboys have officially signed WR Raghib Ismail to a 7 year, $21.5 million contract.
  • The Eagles re-signed QB Bobby Hoying.
  • The Cowboys declined to match the Panthers offer sheet for WR Patrick Jeffers, making Jeffers a Panther with a one year, $1.2 million deal. The Cowboys will receive the Panthers 5th round selection in Saturday's draft.
  • The Dolphins waived WR Denis Montana.
  • Saturday's NFL draft appears to be coming into focus. It looks like the Browns will take QB Tim Couch, the Eagles will take QB Donovan McNabb, the Bengals will take QB Akili Smith and the Colts RB Ricky Williams.

  • The Rams acquired RB Marshall Faulk from the Colts for undisclosed draft picks. This year's 1st round pick (6th overall pick) was not part of the deal.
  • The Bengals re-signed WR Stepfret Williams to a 1 year contract.
  • The Browns are negotiating with Tim Couch, Akili Smith and Ricky Williams to determine what it would take to sign each.

  • The Cowboys have signed QB Troy Aikman to a 6 year extension with hopes of clearing up cap room to officially sign WR Raghib Ismail.

  • The Seahawks have signed WR Sean Dawkins to a 2 year, $2.9 million contract.
  • The Colts released WR Aaron Bailey and RB Lamont Warren.
  • The Eagles signed TE Jamie Asher to a 3 year contract, $2.9 million contract.
  • The Lions signed WR Freddie Scott.

  • The Dolphins have signed WR Tony Martin to a 4 year, $14 million deal. It is contingent on his being acquitted on money laundering charges. The trial begins August 2nd, which is 4 days into training camp.
  • The Browns worked out QB Tim Couch, who threw 115 passes in 90 minutes. He looked impressive and still merits consideration for the #1 pick. The Browns like Akili Smith's mechanics and maturity (Age 24). The Browns are still considering Ricky Williams as well. They are also interested in the Saints blockbuster deal of all 1999's draft picks and some picks in 2000 for the #1 pick.
  • The Bucaneers have signed WR Felman Malveux to a 2 year contract.
  • The Vikings failed to match an offer sheet from the Dolphins for TE Hunter Goodwin. Thus the Dolphins have signed TE Hunter Goodwin to a 3 year deal.

  • The Bears match the 2 year, $1.4M offer sheet given to RFA C Casey Wiegman by the Dolphins.
  • The Chargers sign free agent WR Ray Ethridge.
  • LSU RB Cecil Collins was sentenced to 4 years probation on Wednesday 4/7/99 after pleading guilty to 2 counts of simple battery, and 2 counts of unauthorized entry in Baton Rouge, LA last year.
  • Dolphins agree to a 4 year, $15M contract with WR Tony Martin.
  • The Colts sign RB Darrick Holmes to a 2 year, $1.4M contract.

  • After being traded to the Chargers, QB Jim Harbaugh underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove loose cartilage from his right knee. This was known about before the trade and he is expected to be ready for mini-camp in April.

  • The Bills have have agreed to a contract extension with QB Doug Flutie worth $22 million over 4 years.

  • The Raiders signed WR Chris T. Jones, and re-signed QB Wade Wilson.

  • The results of the Cleveland Browns Expansion Draft are now available.
  • Patriots RB Robert Edwards will miss the 1999 season after severely injuring his knee during a beach flag football game.
  • The Lions signed QB Ron Powlus.
  • Falcons WR Tony Martin has been charged in federal court with money laundering and will be arraigned tomorrow.
  • The Steelers re-signed TE Mark Bruener to a 4 year, $10 million deal.
  • The Saints are not interested in re-signing QB Kerry Collins.

  • The Jets have announced their 5 players available for the expansion draft which includes QB Glenn Foley.
  • The Vikings have announced their 5 players available in the expansion draft and it includes QB Todd Bouman and QB Jay Fiedler.

  • Vikings QB Brad Johnson wants to be the starter next season or be traded.
  • Broncos offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak has turned down the University of Colorado's head coaching job and has stated he will be with the Broncos next season as well.
  • The Ravens will reportedly name Vikings offensive coordinator Brian Billick their head coach. Billick was consider the front runner for the Browns head coaching job, but they lost interest.

 January 15, 1999

  • The Raiders continued their Heisman tradition signing QB Andre Ware, who played in the CFL from 1995-1997, but was out of football last season. They also signed TE Marcus Hinton today.
  • The list of available players for the expansion draft has been given to the Browns. The list is available here.

 January 14, 1999

  • Dolphins head coach Jimmy Johnson reportedly resigned today, then hours later decided to stay in Miami, hiring ex-Bears head coach Dave Wannstedt as an assistant.
  • The Jaguars have extended head coach Tom Coughlin's contract through the year 2003. It is reportedly worth about $2.4 million per year.
  • The Patriots will keep head coach Pete Carroll for next season, but many of the other coaches will be gone.

  • The 49ers have signed head coach Steve Mariucci to a 5 year, $10 million deal.
  • Doctors say that Redskins WR Michael Westbrook could return next season after successful neck surgery that fused 2 vertebrae together with a metal plate.
  • The Bears signed WR Derrell Mitchell.
  • All NFL teams out of the playoffs have submitted their list of protected players for the Browns Expansion Draft. Some of the more notable offensive players include: QB Gus Frerotte, QB Heath Shuler, RB Terry Allen, FB Daryl Johnston, WR Billy Davis, WR Fred Brock and TE Jarius Hayes.

  • The Seahawks have named former Packers coach Mike Holmgren their head coach and general manager. He signed an 8 year, $32 million deal.
  • The Chargers have signed Oregon State coach Mike Riley to be their new head coach.
  • The Browns have signed RB Pepe Pearson and WR Jermaine Ross.
  • 49ers RB Garrison Hearst broke his left fibula during Sunday's loss to the Falcons.
  • The AP named RB Terrell Davis the 1998 NFL MVP.

  • The Panthers have named George Seifert their new head coach, signing the former 49ers coach to a 5 year, $12 million deal.

  • Lions WR Germane Crowell has been arrested for driving while impaired and reckless driving. He was clocked at over 110 mph in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, while racing another individual. He is scheduled to go to trial on February 9th. The team has made no comment on the situation.
  • The Packers are reportedly about to name ex-Eagles head coach Ray Rhodes as their new head coach.
